My "Bucket" List

I don't know why but the whole idea of a bucket list has been on my mind. You know things you want to do or places you want to visit before you die. I've never thought too much about it before. As I thought about it, there were some things that I would love to do. I guess this is more of a wishlist for me.

  • Be debt free
  • Visit Europe, especially England, Scotland, Denmark, Italy & Greece

Families Are Forever

We got a glimpse of heaven last night. Chase received his endowment at the Logan Temple. Neat thing: We all got to be there with him. It was really nice to see a glimpse of that completely eternal family that I love as we all stood together in the Celestial Room. It was an amazing experience and as always, a spiritually uplifting visit.

Christmas 2016

This year Ipaco was closed both Christmas Eve and the day after since Christmas was on a Sunday. It was really nice to have the whole weekend. On Christmas Eve, Mom and I braved the crowded stores and got some last minute gifts and groceries. We had our big dinner that night, played TENZI and watched “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”.
McKenna stayed the night, so she slept on my bedroom floor. I didn’t sleep very good as I am a very light sleeper and she snores, but it is all good. We woke up on Christmas morning to a bunch of snow (about 10 inches). Dad and Chase got up really early and went up to the church to shovel the sidewalks. It was a feat to get there as the roads had not been plowed. The rest of us got ready for church. At 8:30 I got a text from Dad that they had decided to cancel church. Dad and Chase then came home and began digging us and the neighbors out. A snowplow didn’t go down our road until about 12:30 pm. If it hadn’t been Christmas, we all would have cleared our driveways and gone to church, but since the roads were bad and plows were scarce, we ended up staying home. Chelsea and her family came over for breakfast, which because of the weather, didn’t happen until about 11. After eating, we went to open Christmas gifts. The boys had a great time opening gifts and were spoiled. So were we. Chelsea gave me a neat bag to store my LipSense colors in, Santa brought a book, a movie gift card and a mouse pad, Grandma Dennis gave us super soft blankets and then from Mom & Dad I got a Defense Alert Device, a minky blanket, a purse, “The Secret Life of Pets”, and “Star Trek: Beyond”.
Chase was very excited about his gift from McKenna. She got him an amazing shaving kit and even had the razor engraved with his initials. I had Chelsea this year and I made her a stainless steel water bottle with pictures of her kids on it. I then spent a while helping Carson build some of the LEGOS he got. He is so smart and really good at it. Then they went back home and I took a much needed Christmas nap. McKenna, Chase and I spent a little bit of time playing Super Mario Brothers and then we went over to Chelsea’s house to see everything the boys got for Christmas and to play with their 9 puppies. We also ended up staying and playing “Headbanz”.

Called to Serve

On December 22nd, Chase got his mission call! Grandma & Grandpa Andersen, Mindy, Brayden, Alyssa, Erika, Chelsea & Connor and some of Chase’s friends came over to hear where he was going. We had all been guessing. Carson guessed Canada and so did I. Chelsea guessed Hong Kong (probably because it was on her mind because the week before our cousin was called there). The guys at work mostly guessed states or South America. While we were eating dinner Chase said, “Watch, I’ll got to Taiwan because nobody guessed it!”
Everyone showed up and I recorded it live on Facebook so that our family far away could be a part of it. Chase ripped it open and began to read his letter:
“Dear Elder Andersen,
You are hereby called to serve as a missionary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. You are assigned to labor in the Taiwan Taipei Mission. It is anticipated you will serve for a period of 24 months. You should report to the Provo Missionary Training Center on Wednesday, April 12, 2017. You will prepare to teach the gospel in the Mandarin Chinese language.”
We were all shocked! None of us had guessed that! Looking at his face as he read it, he looked very excited! He currently has 3 friends serving in that exact mission. He also took a couple of years of Mandarin in high school so he is familiar with the language. As we were thinking about it, Chase has wanted to learn Mandarin since he was little!
He is not particularly excited about having to wait until April to go though.
We get to go to the Temple with him on the 28th of December as he receives his endowment!

Happy Holiday Season

Grandma Dennis & Ted came for Thanksgiving this year. I was looking forward to the holiday weekend to work on some crafts. I was double excited because it has been a while since I was that excited about something like that. After dinner on Thanksgiving, I started working on my crafts and got them all mostly finished by the end of the weekend. It was nice to see Grandma & Ted.
I have spent a good part of December either sick or fighting it off! When I get the stomach bug, it knocks me out for weeks because of my IBS.

I did a couple of LipSense parties and have been excited to see the results! I am in love with this right now!

We did our annual Griffiths family Sub-For-Santa Shopping. Mom and I shopped for a 5 year old while Chelsea & Connor shopped for his 7 year old brother.

The whites came on the 10th to do Christmas with us. Poor Cody was sick with croup so he and Connor went home when the other kids got there.

As the year has been winding down, I have been thinking about the coming of a new primary class with dread and worry. I have seen such a change happen with one of the boys that has always been VERY difficult. I think he has some issues, but the last couple of months, he and I are doing good. He doesn’t behave for anyone else, but he does for me. I worried about him next year with a different teacher. I was torn between wanting to stay with my class or get a new set of kids. I have had 2 difficult children!
Yesterday was our last class together for the year as next Sunday is Christmas and we will only have Sacrament meeting. Toby & Talea started talking about how they liked me as a teacher and didn’t want a new one, they wanted me. They kept talking about how they liked how I taught, something about “you are like the teachers on TV.” {Whatever that means!}
After church the Primary President informed me that I would be moving with those kids to the next class. Toby & Talea will stay with me for the next year and 2 of the other kids will be swapped into my class from the other class that age. I’m excited about it!

On the 12th of December it was exactly 7 years from the day that I graduated from Utah State. I can’t believe it has been that long!

On Saturday we had our Griffiths family Christmas party. Carson & Cody were both in the nativity play and were SO GOOD. Cody was an angel and Carson a shepherd. They both sat on Santa’s lap this year and Carson was so excited to tell Santa that he wanted a robe and socks for Christmas. The boys also LOVED playing Bingo! It was fun to see so many cousins, aunts and uncles and to catch up!

My Mental State

This year I have battled with much higher levels of anxiety and depression than I feel that I ever have. I have always struggled with anxiety, but my general anxiety has been WAY worse this year and I have had to be medicated for it. For the later part of the year I also dealt more with despair and depression than I have in the past. I have theories of why, but that is all they are. A while ago I was diagnosed with general anxiety disorder. This means that I have a lot of anxiety, but it is not really tied to anything specific. This year it seemed to get much worse and some specific things have become bigger triggers for me. I never know from day to day how I will feel or even hour to hour. I am a planner, I do not like to do things last minute, but there are things that I avoid planning (and even doing) because I just don’t know if I will be able to handle it when that time comes.
This year my body has been doing much better as with the help of an endocrinologist, I am on the right combination of medications to balance out my health issues, however I wouldn’t say the same for my mental/emotional health.
I found an article written by someone who also has anxiety issues and it so accurately describes my feelings on the subject. Some days are worse than others and I often feel like I am being weak or childish, but I don’t have a lot of control over it. These are some of my favorite parts of the article:
“Anxiety is an Invalid Excuse”
Anxiety is an invalid excuse. I fear having to tell people I’m on medication because the second I do, I see my fears written across their faces. The fact that I have to take a dose of something with an unpronounceable name twice a day just to make me feel like I’m residing on some middle ground that makes me capable of mandatory human function immediately sets off alarms that I am a lesser person, lacking independence and radiating unpredictability. All of a sudden I’m the crazy, mentally unstable girl completely incompetent and incapabe of any mundane task in front of me.
Anxiety is an invalid excuse. In the eyes of others, it makes me a liar. Lazy. Inadequate. Delusional. Crazy. I can’t say I have a diagnosis because everyone I tell is conditioned to think I’m either a deranged psychopath or I’m faking it because I’m simply too fragile to face life like a normal person; underwhelming unable to walk through a typical routine without having an upper to keep me stable. Do they think I pity myself so much to induce a self-hatred strong enough to keep myself so far from mental catharsis? Do they think I find this fun?
Anxiety is an invalid excuse. They say there’s a science behind it. That it’s just how I work. They say it’s a sickness, real as cancer. But how am I supposed to believe it when I can’t convince myself it’s not self-induced? How am I supposed to survive an illness I’m not convinced even exists? How am I supposed to love my mind if I constantly doubt its ability to decipher reality from fiction?
It’s a bittersweet sentiment knowing my flaws are beautifully misunderstood in a way that allows me to pretend they don’t exist while someone is watching. I thrive in the precious moments I spend being normal. I cripple in the instances I must try to explain the place I’m coming from, the place no one will ever truly understand until they feel their heart stop beating in their chest only to accelerate far past a normal rhythm, blood rushing to their head until the whole world fades away to a crystallized screen of silent white. I’m sure the letter sent to each of my teachers makes them think I’m just a student with low self-esteem who whines and pouts my way through life, looking for shallow excuses to half-ass my work. But I want to succeed. I want to live. To live comfortably. That's my dream.
Anxiety is an invalid excuse because I can’t convince myself I’m not insane. I can’t get over the possibility that every trigger, every panic, is rooted deep in my overactive imagination who happens to be a spiteful little bitch that likes to see me squirm. It’s in the calm moments I feel it most. When I’m finally content and that sharp jab of terror hits the sweet spot in the middle of my throat, closing in until I’m choking on invisible tribulations. It’s so vivid I can see the muscles contracting, turning purple as I fear…what? What is it that I fear? It’s the imaginary evils that sneak up and get me in the moments I least expect it. It’s the seconds of doubt that turn into gut-wrenching reservations and claustrophobic convulsing that drive me right back under my sheets until a glimmer of light breaks through the stitching. It’s the darkest days and the brightest nights because sleep is the only time I can fully escape it.

I love sleep, I always have, but lately it has become the only thing I want to do, mainly because I can escape from my life and in my in my dreams there is no anxiety or depression, no loneliness or despair, everything works out when I sleep. My hopes and dreams are realized and there is no such thing as depression. This past year I have learned a lot more about anxiety and depression and a lot about my coping mechanisms. It is hard when I just can't handle something but people look at me like I am being a baby or a wimp, or even just looking for an excuse to get out of things. I make myself do a lot of things that scare me or make me anxious, but I just can’t make myself do all of it without imploding.

Update!

I have been spending a lot of time with my sweet nephews. We spent as much time outside as we could before the weather got too wet or cold. Cody loves playing in the dirt beneath the pine tree and Carson loves to jump on the trampoline.

We went to the aquarium with the boys and they showed us all of their favorite animals and things to see. It was pretty fun.

Heather and her family came up for a week and I was able to see them for just a second at Emery's blessing. Our family got her the cute outfit and so glad it fit so well!

Cody gets so excited when my Senegence orders come. Usually he is just interested in the packaging, but the last package I got he was also excited about the loot inside!

I didn't really plan anything for Halloween this year, Carson really wanted me to dress up, so I threw together a gypsy outfit right before taking them to Lee's to do the trick or treat. Then I took them to Ipaco to see Grandpa Dave and then to Mom's work for that trick or treat. I did help Kenna work on her Anna costume, but not my own. Maybe next year.

Arizona

I finally got to back to Arizona and visit my best friend. She had her 2nd child at the end of July and I also wanted to meet her! It was fantastic to be able to spend time with her and her children. We spent a lot of time talking and it was wonderful to be around my friend again. Her kids are adorable!!!
I did end up helping her finish moving and cleaning her old apartment in the horrible Arizona heat. Did I mention that I don't handle heat well at all!?! I only go to Arizona to see her, seriously that is the only reason. I am always sad to leave her and her family, but this time I found myself fighting back tears on the way to the airport. Once I got out of the car and waved goodbye, the tears began to fall down my cheeks. I ended up being "that girl" in the airport crying. I wish that we lived closer to each other and could see each more often.

LipSense

So yesterday I signed up to be a distributor for LipSense. I'm super excited and I hope it goes well! I will probably have quite the collection for myself soon enough though!

Chase and I survived the week last week with our parents on a cruise. The house didn't burn down, the lawn didn't die, somehow the dog managed to survive as well as the garden. We kept the boys alive and happy with the help of our neighbor, Erika. Now we need a vacation though!

Update

Wow I have really neglected my blog lately.

Our summer has been pretty typical, just our usual routines with added work (painting apartments) and family time.

Cody Bear is growing up so fast! He is walking now and is super fast and quite the explorer. He loves talking on the phone, getting into things, suckers and trying anything brother does!

Carson seems like he has unlimited energy and then he will all of the sudden crash. The boys spent a few nights sharing my bed while their parents were out of town for a bit. Carson was so excited to have a sleep over and even though I didn't get much sleep sharing my bed with two windmill, sleeping children, it was fun!

Anyone who knows me knows that I don't do blood, emergencies and the like. However, when Chase got hurt at work and I was on my way out the door to go to the bank, I was tasked with taking him to workmed. Usually when Chase visits Instacare and the ER, mom goes with him, but this time it was me. Because it was his face, the doctor decided to glue it rather than stitch to avoid scaring.

Carson loves Build A Bear. Since our trip he keeps asking when we can go back. A few weeks ago we made a deal that if he could fill out a chore/attitude chart, he could pick out a new outfit for his bear. It took him 3 weeks to complete the chart and he got to pick out clothes when he was staying with us. He was so excited and knew exactly what he wanted:
A Nemo hoodie
Black Althetic Shorts
Black Athletic Shoes
PJs
The hardest part was waiting for them to arrive in the mail. They happened to get her last week on the same day that we took another trip to Farmington Station (which he knows is where Build A Bear is). Because he was so well behaved while McKenna and Mom did some jewelry shopping (and is spoiled) we stopped by the Build a Bear Store on the way home where he picked out sunglasses, hulk hands and a ninja turtle hat. When we got back home, his package of clothes was waiting and we just had to put them on his bear!

I sure love spending time with these wonderful boys, even though it often wears me right out!

I'm looking forward to a trip to Mesa in a month. My best friend had her 2nd child on Sunday, a girl, and I'm going down to visit her family and meet her daughter!
