Exciting Changes

This weekend we got a wonderful change/addition to our family! Chelsea had her baby yesterday!
When she went to her doctor appointment yesterday morning, they sent her up and broke her water. Mom & Carson went up to hang with her in labor & delivery for a while. I got off work around noon and went and picked up Carson from the hospital. He and I went to Shopko to get a few things and so he could pick out a present for his baby. He picked out a little onesie, a swaddle blanket and a toy. He even picked out the bag to put it in. Then he picked out a big brother prize so he could have a present too.

Carson and I grabbed a grilled cheese sandwich on our way back to Grandma Trish's house. We played for a couple of hours and then we went to a swim meet to watch Chase swim. Carson loved watching them in and asked me about every different stroke they were doing. Then he would stand on the bleacher, put on his goggles and jump. Then he would pretend to swim and wanted me to cheer for him. It was really cute. Right after the swim meet got over, we got the news that baby had arrived.

Codiak Michael Balls (Cody) was born on May 8, 2015 at 6:01 pm. For being a couple of weeks early, he was only 1 pound lighter than Carson was. He was 6 pounds 12 ounces and 19 inches long.
We entertained Carson until he could go see his mom, dad and baby. Then after grabbing something to eat and picking up something for Connor, we headed to the hospital to meet Cody. Connor helped Carson hold Cody for the first time. While Carson was holding him, he said, "I love him." It was so sweet. He was so soft with Cody and was a loving, protective big brother. The rest of us got to meet Cody after that. He looks a lot like Carson did as a baby, but I think he looks more like Chelsea than Carson did when he was first born. Cody also has very long fingers and feet. He has a bunch of dark hair.

After spending some time at the hospital, Carson kissed his brother goodnight and we headed home. Carson stayed the night with me so that both of his parents could be at the hospital. He brought his baby doll (which we had to wrap up just like Cody was at the hospital) and his stuffed animal. It was late when we got home, so we got ready for bed and within about a half hour, Carson was snoozing.
This morning after he woke up, he asked me if I had a great day yesterday too. We agreed that we both had a great day. As we said our bedtime prayers last night, he listed the great things that he got to do yesterday and I thought they were too sweet to keep to myself.

  • Getting to be at the hospital with Mommy and get his own cup like hers.
  • Going to Shopko to get Trolley and Daniel Tiger toys.
  • Getting a grilled cheese for lunch.
  • Playing with his toys with Na-Nae and Uncle Chase.
  • Going to a swim meet.
  • Riding on Grandpa Dave's shoulders and eating dinner with Grandma Trish and Grandpa Dave.
  • Meeting baby Cody and seeing Mom and Dad.
  • Getting to have a sleepover.
His list was pretty similar to my own. Although I didn't have any time to get anything done yesterday or have some downtime, it was a wonderful day and I am so grateful that I get to spend so much time with Carson and that I have another one! :)
