So this is going to be overboard, but I'm bored and with all of my cleaning out and finding things, I have decided to write down so memories with pictures for my "journal". I am making memory books, but they are mostly pictures.
I found this quote about memories that I really like:
Memories:
A way of holding onto the things you love, the things you are, the things you never want to lose
Here goes.....
High School Dances
I did go to 3 dances total during high school, 2 of which were girls' choice. The other dance is one that I don't like to remember. It was a horrible date and to be honest I really struggled just to get through the evening with my date. I looked amazing though!
The first dance I went to was a Hawaiian themed girls' choice dance in May 2004. For most of our group of friends, this was our first date. There were 6 couples in the group. Because this was our first date and there were so many of us, it was overwhelming and awkward. I had already asked someone else, who couldn't go and my "backup" was taken by another of my friends, so I asked my friend Anthony. My friend, Jacki, and I drove out to his house in Richmond to take him a beach bucket full of goldfish crackers. He had NO idea it was me that was asking him since I personally delivered it. It said something like "Of all the fish in the sea, will you go to the dance with me?" Then my name was hidden in the bucket of fish and he had to "go fishing" to find out who asked him. He responded by giving me a huge bag of flour with a note that said I would find his answer in the flour. Luckily I had already heard of this way of answering and knew that there would not be any answer in the bag of flour. The next day at school, he gave me a flower that had a yes on it.
Jacki asked me to go help her ask David, since I knew his family. We threw starburst candies all over his very messy room. It was something about him finding her name in the stars. I climbed up on his bed (since Jacki wouldn't) and spelled her name on his ceiling with glow-in-the dark stars. Then David called me and I helped him answer her!
We made a whole day of it, which didn't help the overwhelming feeling of the whole thing, but what did we know!?! We had a "picnic" had my house for lunch and spent some time out on the lawn talking. Then we had dinner at Lindsay's house, Hawaiian Haystacks and smoothies. We went over to Sky View for the dance and pictures. We had a lot of fun and it was a great day and evening spent with friends. After the dance we went back to Lindsay's house and had a huge game of B.S. It was a great idea to go with friends so there wasn't any pressure and we already knew each other!
My friend Heather and I joined up with a couple of other friends for another girls' choice formal dance a year later. We had decided that while our big group of 6 couples had been fun, smaller would be better. Heather and I asked our then crushes to this dance and both said yes! It was the Sweethearts Dance February 2005. We only did a date in the evening. {see we learned that it was better not to have a whole day of it}Heather & I were very nervous for this date! We weren't worried about us all being able to chat since Heather & I were best friends and our dates were very good friends with each other too. Chelsea and Brooklyn did our hair for the dance, dad made a wonderful dutch oven dinner, and mom decorated the table SOOO cute! We were picking up both of the guys at my date's house and on our way there we had time to kill, so we stopped at Mindy's house in Hyde Park to see her and visit the kids. {keep ourselves occupied} After we picked up our dates, we went to my house and played Scattergories while we waited for the other 2 couples to arrive. When they got there, we played Imaginiff. We had so much fun with that game and there was a lot of laughter! Then we went upstairs and had dinner. Dad had made potatoes, ribs and chicken. They guys were so excited when they were told they could have BOTH chicken and ribs if they wanted. At the beginning of dinner we played a game that you had to follow a rule on the bottom of your plate until someone figured out what your rule was, then you were free. I don't remember all of them, but I know that Heather had to yell "Hurry what's the number for 9-1-1?" when someone did something, my date had to jump up and do disco when someone {don't remember who} laughed. Heather's date had to say "Hasta la vista baby" when Lindsay used her knife. We had ice cream cut out in the shape of a heart for dessert, which Heather's date joked must of come from our heart shaped cow.
After dad took some pictures, we headed up to Sky View for the dance and more pictures. We had so much fun! Our group and dates were amazing! There was a lot of laughter, talking, and dancing and by the time we decided to leave the dance, we were all exhausted, hot, and thirsty. We weren't ready to call it an evening so we surprised my parents by going back to my house and teaching the guys how to play Wackee Six {and drinking A LOT of water!!!!!!!!} It was the best dance ever!
After we took the guys home for their curfews, we stayed up talking for hours to my mom about how much fun we had and the good times we would remember.
